Cant Read Samsung Hard Drive From Dell Gx

My first thought was yous might need a BIOS update. Looks like your SSD is specifically mentioned here :http://www.dell.com/support/home/the states/en/nineteen/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=8GH4F

Have y'all actually tried installing Windows with information technology in there?  If information technology shows up in legacy mode, then the system sees it.  The Optiplexes I have don't list annihilation in the UEFI kicking order until an OS is installed (though I disable all other options), so you tin choose to boot from Windows Boot Manager.

but I as well don't see the bulldoze under 'Drives' M.2 PCIe SSD in bios

Wait under organization information, it'southward listed with the cards, not the SATA drives.

Something else I recollect from using the same drive in an Asus motherboard. For NVMe drives like y'all have, you may need to modify SATA Mode, possibly to RAID. I don't know the exact settings on your system. In my case, one time I got the correct settings, Windows 10 install found it no problem and I installed the kicking sectionalization there.

Likewise, I have an adapter that I can plug the SSD into....(Lycom DT-120), simply should I plug it into the PCIe2x4 or PCI3x16 slot? I remember reading something about lanes but I'm not sure which is fastest

Unless your installing a 2nd NVMe bulldoze, I don't see the bespeak. Your Windows install will find it if you have the SATA mode set correctly. Also NVMe and ACHI drives are two dissimilar things. That said, NVMe uses 4 PCIe 3.0 channels. If you don't need the PCI3x16 for something else utilize it.

Cheers all....still no luck installing the SSD! I did nevertheless put the SSD onto the Lycom and into the PCI3x16 slot, and bios/OS install yet cant seem to install it

If the 5040 is anything similar the 7040 and has an One thousand.ii slot already, there's admittedly no need for the adapter.  Put it back where it was, look in the BIOS for it under Cards, and effort installing Windows without worrying well-nigh the UEFI kicking order.  And when you boot to install it, make certain it'southward not trying to boot from USB in legacy mode.

Thanks....it does have a thou.ii slot and I had it in there originally...where is the 'cards' section in the BIOS? I don't see it.

Also, when I check Legacy under boot option list I see the samsung drive listed just as soon as I change it to UEFI information technology's gone

Cards are under System Data, somewhere near the pinnacle.  I'yard not looking at 1 at the moment, but it's wherever it shows how much memory and what CPU it is.

I don't come across whatsoever such affair....the attached movie is what I see.

On the 7040, I encounter a serial or part number on that second entry.  I'd beginning with updating the BIOS (1.four.4 is electric current) and brand sure that bulldoze is compatible.

Sigh...all the same no luck

You may demand to update the thou.2 950 firmware in order for the system to see the drive under UEFI.

If yous accept a spare hard drive with Windows already installed on information technology, boot into that drive, download the updated firmware for the m.2 950, install then set up the Dell BIOS to UEFI to see if that does the fob.
